• This week has been an interesting one at Robert Floris’ Mortgage Architects Office located on the East Hamilton Mountain. Most of my ideas come from my existing clients. This week, many came in financially stressed. We are in an area which is growing and in my humble opinion, will be exploding in our society in the next few years.

A recent study by the Financial Planning Standards Council (FPSC) shows a whopping 42% of Canadians number one stress is money. Some effects of their financial problems are lack of sleep, wates your time, keeps you from enjoying your life, makes you unhealthy, strains your relationships and could lead to bhavioural issues. A financial planner once taught me the following:

Very simply, if you have financial problems, it leads to family and health issues. If you have personal health issues, it will lead to financial and family woes. Nedless to say, they are all closely intertwined. In fact, when we mentioned 42% of Canadians are stressed with money, 19% reported personal health and 17% indicated family and relationships as their biggest worry.

Obviously how you were treating your finances was not working. At Robert Floris’ office, we not only have low mortgage rates, but we want to teach on how to improve your financial well being as well. Essentially here is how we do it:

    1. Admit you have a problem.

    2. Change your mindset to ensure you can achieve it.

    3. Change your behaviour.

    4. Pay off your debt with a plan.

    5. Start paying yourself so we build an emergency fund.

    6. Look at alternate sources of income.

    7. Simplify your finances.
